Jazz at Parnassus this Saturday

Standard

I received this email today, be there or be….

I’m absolutely delighted to be presenting “Jazz by the Book: The Music of Peggy Lee” with Lori Mechem and Roger Spencer.  This special presentation will be this Saturday, March 24th, at Parnassus Books in Nashville from 4-5pm.  It’s free, open to the public and Parnassus will have lots of great Peggy Lee books, DVDs and music for you to purchase, if you are so moved.

This event is special to me for many reasons. First of all, its a series in conjunction with the Nashville Jazz Workshop. Secondly, I get to play with two of my favorite musicians and lastly, it’s a chance to support one of Nashville’s newest treasures.  For those of you who are not familiar, Parnassus Books is an independent bookstore located in Nashville, TN. It was started by best-selling author Ann Patchett and publishing veteran Karen Hayes.  It happens to be run by one of my favorite people in Nashville, Mary Grey James.  For Mary Grey, I’ll do just about anything!  So, it’s a privilege and honor to be performing in such a special venue.

Oh, and if you haven’t seen Ann Patchett’s visit to Stephen Colbert, it’s a must-see. Ann is my new hero! (skip to 15:14 and you’ll be at the start of Ann’s interview)

I’m really excited to share with you a few great Peggy Lee stories & songs.  It’ll be fab, so join us!

Keep Swingin’

Want to buy a Gabe Dixon ticket?

Standard

I realized after I had agreed to go to this concert that I already had tickets to Lyle Lovett & John Hiatt at The Nashville Symphony, so get in touch if you would like to get a ticket to the DeGraw/Dixon show.

March 13      Gavin DeGraw w/special guest David Nail and Gabe Dixon     Marathon Music Works

Gabe Dixon is wonderful, I saw him do a Christmas show at 3rd & Lindsley and it was one of the most memorable nights of music in Nashville I’ve experienced.

March 17     Gary Talley     Puckett’s Grocery in Leiper’s Fork

Great guitar player, teacher and guy!

March 17     Annie Mosher, Cheley Tackett, Lisa Carver     Douglas Corner Cafe

This is a blast from the past, I used to go see these three ladies perform when I first moved here, they are awesome songwriters and tons of fun.

March 18     The Dean Martinis     Sambuca

Sambuca’s atmosphere is gothic/boudoir, but The Dean Martinis are fantastic and fun.

March 18     Spanish Harlem Orchestra    Schermerhorn Symphony Center

There is going to be a 12 foot dance floor.

March 23    The Long Players perform REM’s Murmur     Mercy Lounge

I’m not a huge fan of REM but every time I’ve been to a  Long Players show I have had a great time!

April 7      Guilty Pleasures      Mercy Lounge

If you were around in the 80’s, like to dance and have fun – GO!

April 7      Asleep At The Wheel     Franklin Theatre

Best Texas swing in Nashville.  You won’t be disappointed, I guarantee it!

April 21      Space Capone     Mercy Lounge

This band is nothing but fun, fun, fun.

April 27     Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybees    Mercy Lounge

I’ve never seen this band or heard them but I hear them advertised on Lightning 100 all the time and love the name.

April 29     Tedeschi Trucks Band     Ryman Auditorium

A coming together of  Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks how could it possibly be bad.

May 12       Bonnie Raitt     Ryman Auditorium

I saw her a few years ago, Keb Mo opened it was a great show.  My favorite song for the past few months has been “I will not be broken.”

May 4      Hot Chelle Rae     Mercy Lounge

I’ve never heard this band but recently  someone who’s musical tastes I respect made great remarks about this group.

May 4     The McCrary Sisters     3rd and Lindsley

I’ve only ever seen them do Aretha with the Long Players but I was blown away.
