Live Music Week of February 18, 2013

Standard

2/18/13     Drumline Live     Schermerhorn

As much as I love the bands and singer/songwriter’s we have access to in Nashville I just love unique musical productions that aren’t accessible to us on a weekly basis.

2/19/13     The Billy Block Show     Mercy Lounge

This long running event is only $5 and features really great artists from in and out of Nashville.

2/20/13     Will Kimbrough     Station Inn

The Station Inn is full of locals and tourists in the heart of the Gulch but a real true  Honky Tonk that hold’s it’s ground! Jimmy Buffet loves Will so you will too!

2/21-23/13     The Chieftains     Schermerhorn

Irish music is not just for St Patty’s day anymore.  Great musicians in an award-winning (well it should be if it isn’t) venue.

2/22/13     The KDSML Review     Exit/In

I knew him back when he spelled it Kidsmeal.  I knew nothing about DJ’s when he came to Cafe Coco many years ago. This man gave me the appreciation for it as an art form so I expect great things from whoever he brings to his events.

2/23/13     Jen Foster & Granville Automatic   Bluebird Cafe

Okay, the reason I know about this event is because I work with Jen, however I also love my job.  She’s a fabulous singer and songwriter and one of the members of Granville has sung back ups for her and all I can say is…don’t miss hearing that voice.  Just remember it’s the Bluebird so shhhh…and get your tickets now.

2/24/13     Oscar Night     Belcourt Theatre

Well it’s not necessarily music but it would be fun.  I honestly was hard pressed to find anything that grabbed my attention for Sunday night. Put on your party dress, walk the red carpet and support a great local treasure.

Live Music Week of February 11, 2013

2/11/13     Val Storey, Carl Jackson & Larry Cordle      Station Inn

I guess they are calling this the “New Monday” since the moving of the old Monday and the Time Jumpers to 3rd and Lindsley.  Never mind, there is nothing new about the Bluegrass musicians and songwriter’s who will take the stage.  Be prepared to be both thoroughly impressed and entertained.  Good move Station Inn!

2/12/13   the615     Lightning100

You can’t go out every night.  Stay home and listen to this great new show on my favourite radio station featuring local Nashville bands.

2/13/13     Larissa Bovetti, Craig Monday, Sally Barris, Scott Sanford     Bluebird Cafe

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard some of these names but they are people I was playing open mic’s and writer’s nights with when I used to do that.  I was always a fan of Scott Sanford’s writing and production.  I had a homemade CD I about wore out.   The Bluebird is always a worthwhile night just remember to buy your dinner there and please be quiet!

2/13/13     Etta Britt and Bonnie Bishop     Music City Roots at the Loveless Cafe

I will pretty much always include Music City Roots as the thing to do Wednesday night.  Someone on the lineup is always worth the 10 bucks plus you get a whole lot more.   This week is no exception, plus I saw Jim Lauderdale eating lunch this week so it’s just apropo that you go.

2/14/13     2nd Annual “Love Is Deaf”      Douglas Corner Cafe

My friend Julie Grower and her hubby will be playing this and they told me it’s a bunch of fun.  I guess it’s a mix of pro’s and their “better halves” performing duets.  I’ll be heading over there after assisting Jen Foster with her first StageIt show Sgt. Foster’s Lonely Heart’s Club Show.

2/15/13     The Long Players (Rolling Stones Let It Bleed)     3rd and Lindsley

I’ve recommended and been to many of these shows.  Great musicians and wonderful guest singers playing one of the greatest rock n roll album’s ever.  How could you lose.  Tickets usually sell out so get yours now.

2/16/13     KS Rhoads and Moon Taxi    East Nashville Underground

This is a two day event which lasts all day on Saturday so check the schedule before you go.

2/17/13     Attitude with Matthew Perryman Jones       TPAC’s Polk Theater

Modern dance and indie rock, what could be better?  Starts Friday but I think it’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Live Music Week of February 4, 2013

Standard

I’m back….

2/4/13     Chris West & The Junkyard Horns     Douglas Corner Cafe

I’ve been a fan of Chris West and his unique and eclectic bands.  You can find him playing with any number of great musicians in and around Nashville. Always a good bet if it has Chris’s name on it, it will be well worth your time.

2/5/13     Don Schlitz & Striking Matches     Bluebird Cafe

Mr Schlitz, and I call him that because he deserves to be called Mr. for his success, his sacrifices and his uber-magnificent talent, and yet he is humble enough to welcome newcomers Striking Matches to share the stage with him.  I’ve heard enough of their music on “The Facebook” to know they deserve the honor.

2/6/13      The SteelDrivers     Music City Roots at the Loveless Cafe

Music City Roots is always a best bet for me however this particular week is even more fantastic because you get to be in the presence of one of the sexiest and most intense male vocalists in a bluegrass band that I have ever witnessed.

2/7/13      Shovels & Rope      Mercy Lounge

I just keep hearing great things about this duo. My old neighbour constantly raved about them and I’ll take her word .  Check out their website  to hear first hand.

2/8/13     Edwin McCain with Kevin So      3rd and Lindsley

Yea, okay, Edwin McCain would be great to see but  Kevin So is well worth the ticket price.  He plays keys with Keb Mo and anyone who can take my eyes and ears off of Keb for one second must be amazing…he is!

2/9/13     Corb Lund     Exit/In

Do you want to hear some great music, be entertained, laugh and oh yes be in the presence of a genuine Canadian?  Then go to this show!

2/10/13     Butterfly Boucher     3rd and Lindsley

Her voice in unique and maybe not for everyone but if you go with an open mind and heart you will enjoy her no doubt.   Plus it’s Lightning 100’s live radio broadcast so your clap might be heard on the radio…
