Live Music Week of April 29 through May 5, 2013

Standard

I apologize for missing last week.  I was bit by a dog Sunday morning and was in no shape to type Sunday night.  I hope this week makes up for it!

4/29/13     Mike Henderson Band with Michael Rhodes & Kevin McKendree     Bluebird Cafe

I pretty much go between the Bluebird Cafe late show on Monday nights and the Time Jumpers at 3rd and Lindsley. It’s a Monday night but there’s still so much choice in Nashville TN!

4/30/13     Kacey Musgraves    Ryman Auditorium

Kacey is a fabulous and refreshing Nashville songwriter and her music is bringing me back to country radio.  She opens for Little Big Town but she will be headlining in no time at all.  Check her out in September on the Southern Ground show.

5/1/13     Rush     Bridgestone Arena or Music City Roots with Annie Sellick and The Hot Club of Nashville Loveless Cafe

I have to give the shout out to my homies…LMAO but really I’m not a fan of big stadium shows so you will probably find me at the Loveless Cafe listening to the gorgeous vocals of Miss Sellick.

5/2/13     Pam Belford, Lisa Aschmann, Maarten Muller, Sam Lewis     Bluebird Cafe

When I saw Maarten Muller’s name on this line up I thought heck ya.  This is just a really good round of dedicated, honest to goodness Nashville songwriters.

5/3/13     Sweethearts of the Rodeo, Doc Holladay, Lorna Flowers    Barton Perreira

I noticed this is a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt which always makes one feel good to support a good cause while listening to good tunes.

5/4/13      Space Capone and Guilty Pleasures     Cannery Ballroom

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  This is what music is supposed to be about.  Fun, fun and more fun!

5/5/13     Fisk Jubilee Singers     Fisk University

This  is one of the most compelling and beautiful nights of music you can witness in Nashville.  It feels as if history is being made as well as remembered at the same time.

Live Music Week of August 6, 2012

Standard

8/6/12      Nashville Jazz Orchestra      Commodore Lounge

My last post started out with a jazz event and so does this one, glad to see this is still happening since they lost their home in East Nashville.

8/7/12      Delbert McClinton, T Graham Brown, Jonell Mosser and more      3rd and Lindsley

This is a benefit show with a great line-up.  What could be better?

8/7-10/12      Elvis Impersonator Festival      Downtown Nashville

I just need to take a drive by, I’ve heard about these festivals and all the different kinds of Elvis’s that exist, it’ll be good for a laugh if nothing else.

8/11/12      Iris Dement      Country Music Hall of Fame

This is at 11:30 am and the songwriter sessions at the Hall are usually interesting and entertaining.

8/11/12      Percy Sledge      Franklin Theatre

When A Man Loves a Woman, need I say more?

8/12/12      Dawes      Cannery Ballroom

This is my new favorite band, great guitar driven melodies with a singer who sounds a whole lot like Jackson Browne. This is not a favorite venue at all but this band will be worth it!

7/15/12      Chris West       Nashville Jazz Workshop

If it’s in the Jazz Cave it’ll be good, if Chris West is involved it will be fun!

7/16/12  Keep On’ Movin Dance Party  The 5 Spot

This has been going on for a few years and this just might be the week I find out what it’s all about.  The posters are great and it looks like my kinda fun, just a little late for a monday night but perhaps this week…

7/17/12      Death Cab For Cutie     Marathon Music Works

I have loved these guys since I taught  “I Will Follow You into the Dark” to a guitar student.  I’m also excited about Nashville’s newest music venue.  Soul Meets Body, I Will Posses Your Heart… yes this will be a great show!

7/18/12     Jackson Browne with Sara Watkins  Ryman Auditorium

What an amazing pairing! This will be a magical night in the historic and beautiful Ryman hall. If you don’t know Jackson Browne you haven’t been alive long enough. Sara is the fiddler from Nickel Creek who has grown into a wonderful songwriter and solo performer with a very sweet voice.

7/19/12      Emily West    3rd and Lindsley

Great singer, great songwriter, great venue – eat beforehand.

7/20/12      Jonell Mosser  3rd and Lindsley

Powerhouse singer with great songs and great band.  See above…

7/21/12      The Joe Savage Experience    3rd and Lindsley

An ex-boyfriend played keys for this guys years ago, I never saw him but I believe it would be an “experience.”  If you don’t want to risk it check out Shawn Mullins at 3rd and Lindsley.

5/1/12     Feist      Ryman Auditorium

I’ve had my ticket for quite awhile and I’m looking forward to seeing this lady live!

5/2/12      Charles Alexander, Kendra Chantelle, Bobby Hamrick and Keeley Valentino

Unfortunately I probably won’t get to this show but it’d be a mistake to not tell you about my great friend Charles and a fantastic round he’s put together. How can you go wrong at the Bluebird eh? Oh yea, you could talk, that would be wrong.

5/4/12      Terri Clark, The Grascals      Grand Ole Opry

As always I’ve got to give a shout out to my fellow Canucks however I just think it would be nice to see Terri and what she’s up to after all these years.  As for the Grascals well that’s just a no-brainer. Bluegrass virtuoso funtastic music.

5/4/12      Cheley Tackett, Annie Mosher, Tammy Fowler, Steff Mahan     Douglas Corner Cafe

Can’t afford tickets to the Opry?  This is another blast from the past but I bet these ladies are as fun and talented as ever.

5/5/12     The Delta Saints with Humming House      3rd and Lindsley

Another band I haven’t actually seen but the buzz around town about them over the past couple of years tells me this would be an excellent show.

5/6/12     The McCrary Sisters     3rd and Lindsley

Lots of buzz about this quartet as well but I’ve heard them with the Long Players and I can’t wait to hear them do you their own thang.  They come from  gospel royalty from what I’ve heard.

5/7/12      The Time Jumpers     Station Inn

A staple of the Gulch before the Gulch was the Gulch…just go!
